The South University area in downtown Ann Arbor will soon be added to other downtown closures, due to a resolution approved by the Ann Arbor City Council on Monday.

The resolution, which will be in effect around-the-clock, will close Church Street from South University Street to Willard Street in order to encourage residents to frequent nearby businesses.

Restaurants and shops near the closure include Good Time Charley’s, The Garage Bar and Pinball Pete’s.

The closure will go into effect immediately and end on Aug. 30, according to the resolution. Businesses using the closed street for seating and sales will have to comply with social distancing and masking requirements.

The South University area closure follows similar closures approved in March. Those closures, which are near Main Street, are also in effect until August.
