The history books will show that there were two Division 1 state tennis champions in 2021.
Ann Arbor Pioneer and Bloomfield Hills both scored 30 points to share the state title. Birmingham Seaholm was third with 20, Grosse Pointe South was fourth with 16 and fifth place was shared by Midland Dow and Troy, who both scored 14 points.
Pioneer swept the four singles flights while Bloomfield Hills won three of the four doubles flights.
All four of Pioneers’ individual winners were seeded No. 1.
At No. 1 singles, Reese Miller beat sixth-seeded Sari Woo of Ann Arbor Skyline 6-0, 6-1.
Elsie Van Wieren won No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Sofia Gryzenia of Bloomfield Hills.
At No. 3 singles, Mia Goldstein knocked off No. 3 seed Grace Shaya of Bloomfield Hills 6-1, 6-1.
Bridgette Kelly beat No. 2 seed Julia Yousif of Bloomfield Hills 6-3, 6-2 to win No. 4 singles.
At No. 1 doubles, second-seeded Hannah Tomina and Noa Goldstein of Bloomfield Hills beat top-seeded Kate Beardslee and Claire Beardslee of Grosse Pointe South 6-2, 6-2.
Reagan Tomina and Carly Bernard of Bloomfield Hills won No. 2 singles with a 7-6 (6-2), 4-6, 7-5 victory over No. 2 seed Stephanie Ochoa and Grace Zhu.
At No. 3 doubles, Eyrn Stern and Natalie Raab of Bloomfield Hills beat Troy’s Nika Tanako and Sophie Chong 4-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 in the championship match.
Holland West Ottawa’s second-seeded Kamryn Dumas and Megan Blake won the No. 4 doubles crown with a 7-6, (6-2), 3-6, 6-4 win over Bloomfield Hills Grace Bickersteth and Ellie Alberts, who were seeded No. 1.

Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern won seven of the eight flights to finish atop the field in Midland with 39 points. Bloomfield Hills Marian was second with 25, Birmingham Groves was third with 24, Mattawan was fourth with 18 and fifth place was shared by Byron Center and Portage Central with 17 points each.
The only flight the Huskies didn’t win was No. 4 singles.
At No. 1 singles, top-seeded Abby Siminski won 6-0, 6-2 over third-seeded Sullivan Patel of Birmingham Groves.
Isabella Paul won No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 3-6 6-1 victory over Deshanaa Betala of Portage Central. They were seeded first and second, respectively.
At No. 3 singles, Alexis Pena beat Portage Central’s Anna Dinsmore 7-5, 7-5 in the championship match. They were also the top two seeds.
Third-seeded Lily Low of Marian won the No. 4 singles crown with a 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 victory over top-seeded Nathalie Lanne of Forest Hills Northern.
At No. 1 doubles, Sophie Richards and Rhea Marwaha won the championship with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over third-seeded Makenna Crandell and Taylor Humphrey of Byron Center. Richards and Marwaha were seeded No. 1.
Mitra Bijoy and Ryan Morey won No. 2 doubles with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Gabi Saba and Keely Nykerk of Marian. They were seeded 1-2.
At No. 3 doubles, third-seeded Tanishka Shenoy and Maya Echtinaw beat No. 1 seed Riley Rosenfeld and Lexy Rosenwasser of Birmingham Groves after the latter retired when trailing 3-2 in the first set.
Second-seeded Marion Haviland and Megan Broughai won No. 4 doubles by beating top-seeded Marcella Zarouk and Meghan Sharkey of Marian 6-0, 7-6 (6-4).
