KENT COUNTY, MI – The funeral service for Hannah Pugsley, 18, a recent graduate of West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science, is Saturday, June 12.

Pugsley, of Grand Rapids, died Sunday, June 6, in a single-vehicle crash on I-196 in Grandville, state police said.

She was described in her obituary as “exceptionally driven, hardworking and bright.”

During high school, Pugsley worked two part-time jobs – she was a hostess at Logan’s Roadhouse and served seniors at Heron’s Woods – and planned to start cosmetology school this month, her obituary said.

She also was a student at Kent Career Tech Center and was recently voted captain of her Criminal Justice Program, the obituary said.

“Hannah loved children, her dog Lenny and was a kind, gentle, happy, positive young woman. She knew the Lord as her Savior and was strong in her faith. Hannah touched countless lives and will be deeply missed by family, friends, teachers and coworkers,” the obituary said.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help with funeral expenses.

“She had a heart of gold and a smile that could light up a room,” said Tiffany Martinez, who organized the fundraiser.

The school said on Facebook: “Hannah was the type of student we all want our kids to resemble. Her personality was bubbly, focused and dedicated. She was kind, hard-working and had a beautiful heart for service.”

The June 6 crash happened around 9 p.m. on eastbound I-196 west of Chicago Drive, state police said.

Pugsley was driving a 2006 Subaru Outback when her vehicle left the road on the right. When she overcorrected, she lost control of the vehicle, which again went off the right side of the road.

It traveled into a ditch, rolled over and struck a tree, state police said.
