After winning in Boston for the second time this series in game five, the New York Islanders find themselves one win away from making it back to the Stanley Cup Semifinals for the second year in a row.
With the series tied 2-2 heading into Boston on Monday night, the Bruins were looking to feed off the near-capacity crowd inside TD Garden. It seemed to have paid off as David Pastrnak scored his sixth of the playoffs less than two minutes into the contest. However, the Islanders took over from there. First, Matthew Barzal scored his second goal in as many games, with Kyle Palmieri scoring his sixth early in period two to give New York the lead. Even though Brad Marchand scored to tie the game for Boston, New York reeled off three in a row, taking a 5-2 lead early in the third period.

The Bruins tried to stage a late comeback, bringing the score to within one, but Islanders’ netminder Semyon Varlamov and company held the fort to win 5-4, taking a 3-2 lead in the series.
Varlamov may not have had the greatest game of the playoffs, but his 40 saves helped the Isles to victory, even though they were outshot by the Bruins 44-19. If Boston wants to stay alive and force a game seven, they are going to have to win in an extremely hostile Nassau Coliseum, which they were able to accomplish in game three.
