After an intense game three, the Tampa Bay Lightning and Carolina Hurricanes meet once again in Tampa Bay on Saturday afternoon. After going up 2-0 in Raleigh, the Lightning looked to have the series well in hand heading into Thursday night’s matchup back home in Tampa.

However, the Canes had other ideas, going up 2-0 early in the second period thanks to goals from Brett Pesce and Sebastian Aho. Yet, it did not take the Bolts long to answer, as Brayden Point and Alex Killorn each scored their sixth goals of the playoffs to tie the game before the end of the middle stanza.

In the third period, both teams tightened down defensively, neither wanting to give up the game-winning goal. Carolina was able to hang on late, including killing off a Dougie Hamilton penalty, to force overtime. In the extra frame, it was Tampa who took a penalty, giving the Hurricanes offense a chance. That was when captain Jordan Staal tipped in an Aho shot, his second overtime-winner this postseason, to give the Canes the 3-2 win, and cut the series deficit to 2-1.

Heading into Saturday, Tampa is going to want to quickly bounce back, and not have a reverse effect of what happened in the opening two games of the series to happen to them. Yet, Carolina has proven they can win on the road this postseason, given the fact they clinched their first round series against the Predators in Nashville.
