A busy night of baseball is on tap Monday night, and it all wraps up with a meeting on the west coast, as the Seattle Mariners travel down to California’s Bay Area to meet with Oakland Athletics for the first of three games.

The A’s are, once again, looking to establish themselves as the team to beat not just in the American League West, but in all of the majors. They currently lead the West with a 28-20 record, only 1.5 games ahead of the second-place Houston Astros. May has been pretty fair to Oakland, as their only slip-ups were a four-game split with the Toronto Blue Jays, and losing two-out-of-three last week to the Astros. Yet, they return home after taking a three-game series from the Los Angeles Angels.

The Mariners are not quite the complete opposite end of the division, but sure are heading that way. Seattle has dropped six in-a-row and have fallen down to fourth in the West, 6.5 games back of the A’s. Worse, they are now only a game ahead of the last-place Angels heading into the final full week of May.

Frankie Montas will take to the hill for Oakland. He is 5-3 this season, and had won three consecutive starts before taking the loss against Houston last Wednesday. For the Mariners, it will be the 1-3 Yusei Kickuchi. The Japanese-southpaw is looking to bounce back after giving up three runs on three hits against the Detroit Tigers seven days ago.
