The series between the Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights was lauded as one of the best series to watch for in these playoffs. However, after game one, the Golden Knights seemed to be a little out of their element.

On Sunday night, the Avs, who were on six days rest after sweeping the St. Louis Blues in round one, came out guns-a-blazing. Nathan MacKinnon scored the first of his two goals in the opening period, and leads all playoffs skaters with eight goals. Gabriel Landeskog also scored twice in the game, but the star of the game was the youngster on the blueline for Colorado, as Cale Makar scored a goal and earned three assists, giving him seven points in the postseason.

Following the 7-1 defeat, Vegas needed two days off between games one and two. Heading into Sunday, they were less than 48 hours removed from winning game seven of their opening round series against the Minnesota Wild. Robin Lehner started in net in game one for the Knights. more or less to give Marc-Andre Fleury, a Vezina Trophy candidate, a break. Expect to see a refreshed Golden Knights team in game two.
