In the first match of their Summer Series, a set of friendly matches against countries from around the globe, the U.S. Women’s National Team prepares to meet Portugal on Thursday.

USA has been exceptional at the start of their 2021 calendar. The squad won their three final matches of group play in the SheBelieves Cup, not giving up a single goal in the process. In total, the Americans have won six of their seven matches so far this year. The lone mark to their record was a 1-1 tie to Sweden in April, which also included the lone tally the U.S. has surrendered as well.

Portugal hops across the pond to meet an American team that is prepping for Tokyo, and looks to be on the of the favorites heading into the tournament. This will only be the ninth all-time meeting between the two teams, with the last four matches all being friendlies. The U.S. won a pair of friendlies back in 2019, and have a 4-2-3 record against the Portuguese. Portugal’s last win against the Americans came during a friendly all the way back in December 1990.
