MUSKEGON, MI – Two community parties this weekend will celebrate the launch of a new non-profit organization in Muskegon.
Lakeshore Community Pride will be introducing itself to the area at a White Party and a Pride Ball.
The organization was created to be “fully inclusive” and represent all groups, said Vice President Adam Holmstrom.
“We are not just here for the gay community. We’re here for our veterans, our disabled Americans, our children that are being left behind or struggling. We’re open to everybody and we want to give back to all these people,” Holmstrom said.
Both events are taking place at the Rusty Spoke Bar and Grill, 2411 Hall Road, in Muskegon.
The White Party is meant to represent all people with a whimsical event at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 11.
“It’s not there to celebrate just LGBTQ Pride but to simply celebrate everybody’s pride,” Holmstrom said.
Vendors will be showcasing art, jewelry and clothing. There will also be resources from the Muskegon Health Department and other organizations on health and HIV and AIDS awareness.
The Pride Ball at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 12 will be full of color.
“Dress to impress. Bring your colors. Speak out. Be proud of who you are. And we just want everybody to have a good time,” Holmstom said.
There will be performances from drag queens and kings, live entertainment, dancing and games. A silent auction will also be held to raise funds for Lakeshore Community Pride.
Holmstrom will be giving a speech and describing the new organization’s mission at the events, including a focus on assisting lakeshore veterans and working with local school districts to reestablish Gay-Straight Alliance organizations.
“We’re all about visibility, making sure that every voice is heard and everybody gets the chance to be helped,” Holmstrom said.
Following the weekend launch, Lakeshore Community Pride plans to host interactive and inclusive activities that give back to the Muskegon area.
Tickets to the White Party and Pride Ball are $10 a person per night, and they can be purchased at the door.
