Freeland turned the tables on Essexville Garber, stunning the Dukes in a Division 2 pre-district game Tuesday, 9-6.
During the season, Garber swept Freeland, 6-2 and 11-0. But Freeland rallied in the bottom of the fifth, with Ryan Quackenbush driving in the tying run and Hayden Hileman adding a two-run RBI single. Nolan Van Loo was 2-for-3 with four RBIs Tuesday.
Alex Duley earned the win in relief, giving up one hit and striking out two in four innings. Freeland, 29-10, advances to take on Bullock Creek at 10 a.m. Saturday at Essexville Garber.
Bullock Creek shares TVC West title
Bullock Creek swept Millington, 11-1 and 10-3, to clinch a share of the Tri-Valley Conference West championship with Standish-Sterling. The Lancers are 16-2 in the conference, 26-6 overall. In the first game, Jacob Wanous earned the win, allowing one hit and striking out eight in five innings. Sam Midkiff, Carter Campau and Jacob Wanous had three hits each. In the second game, Midkiff earned the win, adding two hits on offense.
Michigan Lutheran Seminary 6, Saginaw Nouvel 2
Luke Mason earned the win for Seminary in a Division 4 pre-district game Tuesday. Mason allowed one run on five hits, striking out 10 in six innings. Mason and Lukas LaGalo had two hits each to lead the Cardinals, who advance to face Mayville at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Unionville-Sebewaing.
Chesaning 13, St. Charles 0
Chesaning claimed a baseball pre-district win, using a combined no-hitter from Tyler Sager and Ty Gross to beat St. Charles and advance to a Division 3 district semifinal Saturday at Valley Lutheran. The Indians will face Valley Lutheran at 10 a.m. In three innings, Sager allowed one walk and struck out eight to improve to 7-1. Gross gave up two walks and struck out three in two innings. Weston Powell, Nash Wendling and Nate Martin had two hits each for the 17-8-1 Indians.
Brown City 6, Vassar 1
Nate Whitney was 2-for-2 with a walk to lead Vassar, which lost a pre-district game Tuesday to Brown City. Vassar finishes the season at 10-23-1.
Breckenridge, Coleman split
In a Mid-State Activities Conference doubleheader, Breckenridge won the first game, 6-3, behind Morgan Westall, who struck out 19, allowing two hits, two earned runs and three walks. She also had three hits on offense. Coleman won the second game, 7-1, behind Nevaeh Chaffin’s three hits.
Ithaca splits with Beal City
Ithaca earned a 7-5 win over Beal City in the opener, with Lydia Davenport allowing one earned run and striking out nine to earn the win. Megan Mankey had four hits and Davenport three for the Yellowjackets. Davenport, Mankey and Mady Snyder had two hits each in a 6-5 loss in the nightcap.
Ithaca 3, Pinconning 1
Sydney Marcy scored two goals to lead Ithaca to a district semifinal win, earning the Yellowjackets a spot in the district title game. Emily Ahearn added a goal. Senior Anna O’Boyle earned the win in goal, making seven saves.
Thumb Meet of Champs
Frankenmuth’s Daniel Barger earned four first places in the Thumb Meet of Champs Tuesday, winning the 100-meter dash (:11.35) and 200 (:22.82). He was part of two winning relays with Ian Stephens, Sam Barber and Andrew Braman, claiming the 400 relay (:44.15) and 800 relay (1:31.63). Frankenmuth’s Dalton DeBeau won the discus (152 feet, 2 inches).
Reese’s Sarah Gray was a two-time winner for the girls, earning first places in the 200 (:28.22) and 300 hurdles (:47.86). Frankenmuth’s Jenna Bentley won the 100 (:12.87) and ran a leg on Frankenmuth’s winning 400 relay (:53.36) with Cassidy Hart, Audrey Geer and Jaclyn Schoenow. Frankenmuth also got first places from Mary Richmond in the 3,200 (11:07.26) and Stephanie Stone in the discus (129-0). Caro’s Faith Swenor won the 400 (1:01.79).
