ANN ARBOR – It’s time for readers to make their voices heard once again in the Ann Arbor-area Athlete of the Week poll.

MLive has selected 12 athletes from the Ann Arbor area who had strong performances for their respective teams during the week of May 24-29.

Readers will have unlimited voting until 9 a.m. on Friday, June 4 and the results from the poll will be announced shortly thereafter.

NOTE: The results of the poll have no influence on any of MLive’s postseason honors and are strictly for bragging rights and to express fan appreciation.


Madison Kay, Chelsea


Kay recorded three hits and added a home run, four RBIs and runs scored in Chelsea’s 16-6 win over Tecumseh to close out the regular season on Monday, May 24.

Braden LaRusso, Saline


LaRusso pitched a gem for the Hornets in their 6-2 win over Monroe on Monday, May 24. He struck out eight batters while allowing seven hits and two earned runs in six innings of work.

Olivia Guidinger, Ann Arbor Pioneer


Guidinger closed out the regular season for the Pioneers by pitching a shutout against Ypsilanti on Thursday. Guidinger went four innings and struck out five batters and allowed just two hits.

Makayla Kegerreis, Chelsea

Girls track and field

The junior athlete finished second overall in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 16-feet, 3.25-inches at the MITCA Division 2 state meet on Friday.

Brodie Mahmud, Saline

Boys lacrosse

Mahmud has a solid opening to the boys lacrosse postseason for the Hornets. He scored five goals in a 20-2 in the regional opener against Ann Arbor Huron and followed up with four goals to help the Hornets top Ann Arbor Skyline 17-6 in Thursday’s regional semifinal game.

Kylee Niswonger, Dexter


Niswonger hit a walk-off triple to lead the Dreadnaughts to a 5-4 win over Pinckney on Monday, May 24. Niswonger finished the game with two hits and three RBIs.

Brady Wangler, Saline

Boys golf

Wangler shot a 78 at the Southeastern Conference Red to earn All-Conference Tournament honors on Monday, May 24.

Cece Palazzolo, Dexter

Girls soccer

The sophomore scored two of Dexter’s four goals in a 4-2 win over Pioneer in the D1 girls soccer district opener on Thursday.

Marcus Patton, Ypsilanti Lincoln


Patton seven hits, seven RBIs and scored three runs to help the Railsplitters win their regular season finale series against Jackson last week.

Evan Morelock, Milan


Morelock had two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs in a 10-3 win over Whitmore Lake last Tuesday.

Elaina Walker, Saline


Walker was unstoppable in the circle as she pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts in the Hornets’ 6-0 win against Milan on Saturday.

Carter DeRosia, Chelsea

Boys golf

DeRosia shot a 78 to help lead the Bulldogs to the SEC-White golf championship on Monday, May 24.
