JACKSON, MI — A 19-year-old woman was critically injured in a Tuesday night shooting in Jackson, police said.
At about 9 p.m. on June 8, Jackson Police Department officers were dispatched to the 600 block of S. Mechanic Street to assist a shooting victim. Officers located the injured woman on the back porch of a residence in the area, police said.
The victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the upper body, said Jackson Police and Fire Services Director Elmer Hitt. She was taken to Henry Ford Allegiance Health for surgery, Hitt said.
As of Wednesday afternoon, June 9, the woman remains in critical, but stable condition, Hitt said.
“The circumstances surrounding the shooting are currently under investigation,” Hitt said. “No arrests in connection with the incident have been made at this time.”
